02/13/2013 ACEF Announces Date and Call for Entries for 2013 Little Chick Pageant

ACEF_logo_color-300x267Moulton, Alabama – On Saturday, March 23, 2013, the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival (ACEF) presents the annual Little Chick Pageant open to girls 19 years old and younger. The event takes place three weeks prior to the festival in the Lawrence County High School auditorium beginning at 10 a.m.

A preliminary to the Little Miss Alabama Pageant, the Little Chick Pageant is open to girls 19 years old and younger with age divisions set at 0-12 months, 13-23 months, 24-35 months, 3-4 years, 5-7 years, 8-10 years, 11-13 years, and 14-19 years old. The winner in each division receives a crown with all applicants receiving a pageant t-shirt and two free tickets to the ACEF.

As a preliminary to the Little Miss Alabama Pageant, the ACEF will pay entry fees to the Little Miss Alabama pageant for the winners of the Little Chick Pageant. For more information, visit www.littlemissalabama.com.

All first, second, and third place winners are also invited for a special introduction on the Logan Pharmacy Stage with Nugget and Scramble on Sunday, April 14th. Other winners to be selected are Most Photogenic, Best Smile, and Most Beautiful.

The entry deadline is March 8 by 5 p.m. and may be mailed to ACEF, PO Box 66, Moulton, AL 35650 or dropped off at the Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce located at 12467 Alabama Highway 157 in Moulton.

About the Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival

The Alabama Chicken and Egg Festival is an interactive agricultural experience offering old-fashioned fun, food vendors featuring chicken entrees prepared in a variety of ways, and live entertainment by popular regional bands and local favorites. The ninth annual event is scheduled for April 12-14, 2013 at the Lions Club Fairgrounds in Moulton, Alabama. Admission to the festival is $5 for adults and children 5 and under are admitted free. Tickets may be purchased in advance at Jamie Hood Jewelers located at 1690A Beltline Road in Decatur, Ala., and at 2504 East Avalon Avenue, Suite A in Muscle Shoals, Ala.

Highlights include a chicken clucking contest, where the audience selects the winner; egg toss competition, a favorite among children; eating contests where contestants stuff their faces with chicken wings and hard boiled eggs; and a Down on the Farm area featuring agriculture exhibits, antique tractors, and southern folk life artists such as quilters, saddle makers, farriers, potters, blacksmith and basket and broom makers. Other activities include an egg roulette competition, Motorcycle Chicken Run, and Little Chick Pageant, a preliminary to the Little Miss Alabama pageant.
