In 1968, the city of Haleyville made history when Alabama Speaker of the House Rankin Fite placed the first 911 emergency call from City Hall to U.S. Representative Tom Bevill at the city’s police station. Each year, Haleyville celebrates its role in history with the annual 9-1-1 Festival honoring all police, fire, rescue, and emergency personnel.
