The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) is holding an open-house public comments meeting to discuss the replacing of the Military Street (Highway 43) bridge over the Buttahatchee River in South Hamilton. The meeting, which is set for Thursday, Oct. 3, will also be used to discuss the extension of a five-lane road in the area. The hearing for the project will be held from 5-7 p.m. at the recreation center. In addition to replacing the current bridge, the five-lane section of the road will be extended southward to Marion County Road 35, also known as River Road. The replacement of the bridge is scheduled in September 2014, meaning the work will likely lap over into the early Fiscal Year 2015. This meeting will be of the open-house style format with no formal presentation. Interested persons may arrive anytime within the two-hour period. ALDOT personnel will be available to discuss the project, including right-of-way acquisition procedures. Display maps and relative environmental documents will also be available for review and inspection. People with disabilities who need special accommodations or assistance may contact Jud Young of ALDOT at (256) 389-1488. Written statements and other exhibits may be sent to ALDOT through Oct. 13, whether or not anyone goes to the meeting and makes statements there. Documents may be sent to James Brown, Second Division Engineer, Alabama Department of Transportation, P.O. Box 495, Tuscumbia, AL 35674.
