On March 6th, 2014 THE HAMILTON, AL CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HOSTED A “THINK TANK” MEETING ON MUNSINGWEAR

Unless we work to save it, the Munsingwear / Hollywood Vasserette Building, in Hamilton, Alabama, will be torn down. The vote, as I understand it will be taken by the mayor and city council on April 11th, 2014 (a regularly scheduled meeting).

On March 6th, 2014, a “THINK TANK” was held. Organizers encouraged interested persons to attend. Approximately 30 – 35 people came.

The purpose of the meeting was to have open discussions on the possible uses of a renovated Munsingwear building or other civic center site in the Hamilton area or to hear from the people who were in favor of destroying the building.

With (1) one exception, the people at the meeting were overwhelmingly in favor of saving the building; even volunteering to donate money and their time to cleanup and repurpose the huge ‘Brick & Mortar’ building. One person, in the gathering of thirty or more people gathered that evening, said he thought that the building had ‘outlived it’s usefulness!’

Mr. Gene Sanderson stood to speak passionately in favor of putting a roof on the building and rehabbing it in stages. Several others followed, in agreement with Mr. Sanderson’s ideas, and with many more of their own.

The following pictures were taken after the meeting was dismissed. We did not film the meeting in order for everyone to speak freely and openly about their feelings without any reservations.
