The Winfield Public Library surprised two students and teachers at the Winfield Elementary School Friday, September 5th with school supplies.

During the month of August, students from all surrounding schools were invited to play, “Guess How Many” to win school supplies donated by anonymous donors of Simple Blessings.  Students who visited the public library entered to guess how many quarters and/or how many pencils were in the jar.  The student who guessed correct amount or near the amount received a backpack filled with books and a $30 school supply gift certificate to Wal-Mart.  In addition, the students’ class received the quarters and pencils to use for supplies.  Surprisingly, both winners were students of Winfield Elementary School.

I would like to thank Principle Williams for allowing me to interrupt class for the surprise.  I love to network with our community schools and will continue to implement programs and projects that can benefit our children and teachers.  I was so pleased and somewhat emotional at the excitement and appreciation from the teachers and students.  The Library will continue to have a box in the front entrance for anyone who is interested in donating school supplies any time through the school year.  You may also drop off “Box Tops for Education”.  We hope to brighten other teacher’s day with a little help not only at the beginning of school but for the entire year.  The supplies donated will be evenly distributed to local community schools.
