Blackhawk_promo_imageDecatur, Ala. – Situated between Birmingham and Huntsville off of Interstate 65 is the town of Falkville where a once a year celebration attracts visitors from around the region to celebrate the arrival of autumn. Sponsored by the Falkville Volunteer Fire Department and the Town of Falkville, the Falkville Fall Festival is set for October 11, 2014 and offers a day of pancakes, a car show, a 5K run/walk, an antique tractor show, children’s activities, arts and crafts, and more, culminating with a live concert by a country music chart topping artist. All activities take place in the town’s downtown area.

A pancake breakfast at the Fire Department kicks things off at 7 a.m. where plenty of the fluffy hot cakes will be served until 11 a.m. Donations to the Fire Department will be accepted at the door. A new 5K run/walk and the car show and tractor show follow at 8 a.m. with arts and crafts vendors, bingo, inflatable fun for children, and food vendors set up throughout the day for everyone’s enjoyment. The Fire Department will host a cake auction at noon where an assortment of yummy desserts will be up for grabs.

Music fills the air beginning at 9 a.m. and at 11 a.m., local artist Jeff Whitlow and the Old Barn Band will open for headliner act BlackHawk. Possessing a strong, baritone country voice, Jeff Whitlow performs traditional country music, and whether he is singing a Merle Haggard ballad, or a lightning fast tune from George Jones, the crowd can’t keep from clapping their hands or tapping their toes to the country beat.

At 1 p.m., multi-platinum-selling country group “BlackHawk” will take the stage. BlackHawk’s sound remains a beautiful blend of melody and harmony with genuine and purposeful lyrics. They exploded onto the country music landscape in 1993 with their self-titled album and top 10 hit single “Goodbye Says It All.” Three more hit singles followed (“Every Once In A While,” “I Sure Can Smell The Rain” and That’s Just About Right”), propelling the album to platinum status. They maintained that pace in the years that followed, scoring a dozen top ten hits, including two number ones, while selling more than seven million records.

The event wraps up around 3 p.m. Admission is free. Falkville is located between Huntsville and Birmingham off of exit 322 on Interstate 65. For more information, contact the Falkville Town Hall at 256.784.5922.
