Fort Payne, Ala. – As more Americans begin to realize the importance of supporting homegrown businesses, the Made in DeKalb Expo continues to emphasize the importance of doing so. The third annual event is set for October 30, 2014.

Representatives from manufacturing, transportation/warehousing/distribution/logistics, engineering/industrial and commercial construction, education, healthcare, tourism/hospitality and media are expected to participate. There is no charge to eligible companies to participate by having a booth.

The event is not just for companies. All 9th and 12th graders are given the opportunity to attend. They will meet with industries and learn what careers are available as well as the training needed and will have the opportunity to talk with representatives from the Alabama Career Center and Northeast Alabama Community College.

There will be opportunities for the students to participate in hands-on activities with the industry and education providers. The students will be given a passport that they will have marked by the vendors and return for a chance to win door prizes. The AIDT Robotics Technology Park will have their mobile lab onsite to see and learn how technology has grown and the additional skills needed to be competitive in the labor market. Northeast Alabama Community College’s virtual welder offers attendees a chance to try a hand at welding, virtually of course. Instructors will be on-hand to provide details on the welding profession and to “grade” those who would like to test their welding skills.

The Northeast Alabama BEST Robotics will be onsite this year with judging of the teams’ marketing presentation and engineering notebooks. There will be slots available to observe the skills of the students as they market their Robots!

The expo will open to the public from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. offering everyone the chance to learn about all the great products that are manufactured in DeKalb County. DeKalb County is a leader in the state in the areas of agriculture and tourism and the “Made in DeKalb” expo is an opportunity for the public to visit with representatives from these sectors and to learn just how much they contribute to the local economy.

“Made in DeKalb” will be held Thursday, October 30, 2014, at the Northeast Alabama Agri-Business Center, located at 1571 McCurdy Avenue North in Rainsville, Alabama. The event will be open to participating businesses from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and open to the public at no charge from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.  For more information, contact the DeKalb County Economic Development Association at 888-421-7957 or 256-845-7957.
