01/13/2015 – Experience Alabama Made Snow = Alabama’s only snow ski resort is open for business

Fort Payne, Ala. (January 13, 2015) – Nestled atop Lookout Mountain in Mentone is Alabama’s only snow ski resort where beginner and experienced snow skiers flock to each winter for some cool fun. With the arrival of cold temperatures in the northeast area of the state, Cloudmont Ski Resort has opened its slopes and welcomes visitors for day and night time snow skiing and snowboarding.

Great for beginners and intermediate skiers and snow boarders, the ski resort contains two one thousand foot, beginner/intermediate slopes. Two “pony lifts” take skiers to the top of the slopes that have an elevation of 1,800 feet and a vertical rise of 150 feet.

Ski equipment rental is available on a first come, first serve basis, and a variety of packages, which include equipment, lift ticket and a beginner lesson, are available to purchase ranging from $25 to $50 per person. The cost for a snowboard package is $50 per person, and for those who own ski equipment, lift and slope ticket packages are available from $16 to $30 per person.

Cloudmont is located at 721 County Road 614 in Mentone. Hours of operation are weekdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and weekends and holidays 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. For current weather conditions or reservations, call 256-634-4344.

Snow can be found each year at Cloudmont, a family-owned resort in northeastern Alabama, when overnight temperatures drop to 28 degrees or colder, which allows snow to be made at the resort.
