News Release – USDA Livestock Forage Disaster Program
NEWS RELEASE
Marion County, Ala – The Agricultural Act of 2014 (2014 Farm Bill) authorized the Livestock Forage Disaster Program (LFP) to provide compensation to eligible livestock producers who have suffered grazing losses for covered livestock on land that is native or improved pastureland with permanent vegetative cover or is planted specifically for grazing. The grazing losses must be due to a qualifying drought condition during the normal grazing period for the county.
According to the US Drought Monitor, Marion County was rated as a D3(extreme drought) on July 26, 2016. D3 intensity in any area of the county at any time during the normal grazing period is eligible to receive assistance in an amount equal to three monthly payments. Winston County is not eligible for LFP at this time.
We are currently taking applications for the 2016 Livestock Forage Disaster Program. The information needed for the LFP application is the number of livestock owned 60 days prior to July 28, which would be livestock owned on MAY 28, 2016 . The cattle livestock needs to be broken out into two separate kinds, 1) beef, adult cows and bulls and 2) beef, non adult, 500 pounds or more. If you rent any land for grazing, we will need documentation in writing, signed by the landowner, that you rented the land for 2016. If you have sold any livestock between May 28 and July 26, bring your sales receipts. Please bring all documentation when you apply for this program. The deadline for applications is January 30, 2017. No late file applications will be accepted.
Eligible Livestock includes alpacas, beef cattle, buffalo, beefalo, dairy cattle, deer, elk, emus, equine, goats, llamas, poultry, reindeer, sheep or swine that have been or would have been grazing the eligible grazing land or pastureland.
