AL. – This Weekend is Alabama’s Severe Weather Tax-Free Weekend.
The Alabama Department of Revenue is offering a sales tax holiday on a variety of items that can keep you safe in a storm.
The tax holiday begins Friday, February 26th, 2016, and wraps up Sunday, February 28th, 2016, at the end of business hours.

THURSDAY. AS A COLD FRONT MOVES THROUGH THE REGION TONIGHT…
TEMPERATURES ARE EXPECTED TO RAPIDLY DECREASE BEHIND THE FRONT.
AREAS OF RAIN WILL BEGIN TO CHANGE OVER TO FREEZING RAIN AND SLEET
EARLY THURSDAY MORNING LASTING THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON. THE
SLEET MAY BE LIMITED TO JUST THE NORTHWEST. ICE ACCUMULATIONS
COULD BE BE SUBSTANTIAL IN THE NORTHWEST. TEMPERATURES ARE NOT

OF SLEET AT TIME…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 3 AM TO 3 PM CST
THURSDAY. THE WINTER STORM WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* EVENT…SIGNIFICANT ACCUMULATING ICE IN THE WARNED AREA…WITH
THE POSSIBILITY OF MIXING IN WITH SLEET AT TIMES.
* TIMING…FROM 3 AM THURSDAY MORNING THROUGH 3 PM THURSDAY
AFTERNOON.
* LOCATION…AREAS ALONG AND NORTH OF A LINE FROM MILLPORT…TO
CORDOVA…TO ONEONTA.
* ACCUMULATIONS…ICE TOTALS OF OVER THREE TENTHS FOR THE WARNED
AREA. THERE COULD BE A VERY SMALL SECTION THAT RECEIVES SOME
SLEET ACCUMULATION AS WELL…BUT THE BIGGEST CONCERN REMAINS
ICING POTENTIAL.

Hamilton, AL – Not to worry, not tonight anyway. Each and every first Tuesday evening of each month, at 6:00 p.m., in Hamilton, at least, Emergency Management tests the weather sirens. If you did not hear them, you might talk to EMA and see why you didn’t. Stay safe and pay attention to the warnings for bad weather. It can happen anytime as so many know.

- Don’t forget our furry friends…dogs, cats, and other outside pets and livestock need plenty of food and water to stay warm tonight. Blankets and other old clothes can be useful for bedding. Even an old incandescent light bulb warms up a little space outside for the animals. *Important Note: Always read instructions for using a heat lamp and bulbs for heating. Make sure they are not touching blankets, cloth, or wood (anything flammable).
- Be safe and if you travel, carry water, blankets, flashlights, cell phones, and first-aid supplies in your car in case you get stranded.

06/12/2012 – Early Evening Storm Downed Trees and Power Lines in Hamilton and Surrounding Areas
Monday, June 11th, 2012 – A line of thunderstormes knocked out power in Hamilton, Alabama and surrounding areas, creating a long, dark night for many residents last night.
Crews with Alabama Power and other services were still working today to restore power, cable, and telephone service to customers.
02/07/2012 Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar for Businesses to be held February 23
HAMILTON, AL – We have finalized our agenda and presenters list for the Severe Weather Preparedness Seminar for Businesses. Please mark your calendars for Thursday, February 23, 6 p.m., Hamilton High School Library. The seminar will be presented by the Hamilton Area Chamber of Commerce and hosted by the Hamilton High School Student Government Association. This seminar is open to all businesses, not just Chamber members.
The seminar will have seven speakers, each speaking approximately ten minutes, giving an overview of their assigned topic in preparation for severe weather, i.e., tornado, flood, lightning, winds, etc., or even a situation such as theft, fire, or environmental contamination. At the end of the speaking portion of the program, each participant will have a table where they will have information, pamphlets, business cards, templates of business contingency plans, etc., where attendees can gather information and ask questions on a one-on-one basis relating to their specific planning. The Chamber will also have a table set up for membership recruitment.
There is no cost to attend this seminar, and there is no registration required. Please share this information with everyone.
