04/27/2012 – For The Record: Phillip King Resigns as Lieutenant with Hamilton, AL Police Department

leave a comment »

April 27, 2012 – The following is a Statement from Hamilton Police Chief Ralph Conner:

As of Friday, April 27, 2012, Phillip King has resigned from employment as a Lieutenant with the Hamilton Police Department.  The Police Department has been conducting an internal investigation regarding allegations of violations of department rules and regulations regarding character and integrity.  Mr. King resigned before any conclusion was reached in that investigation.  The investigation stems from an incident on March 29th where the details of a Police operation were misreported.  The event did not result in any harm to the community, however; it did involve violations of Police Department rules of conduct.  The Hamilton Police Department has set high standards of conduct in the interest of serving the community.  These standards are strictly enforced to ensure the Police Department is competent and professional in both character and in their performance of duty.

This ended the statement that 49 County News.Net received from Chief Conner.  In addition, the internal email to HPD Personnel was disclosed and it contained a brief statement (synopsis of above), and the following direct instructions to HPD Personnel:

It is important that we continue to hold ourselves to high standards and avoid the spreading of rumors or speculation of details beyond what was stated above.  This investigation and personnel action was accomplished with the community in mind and the absolute requirement that we are responsible to them and to ensure we do not violate their trust.  Please continue to treat this issue with respect to everyone in the community which includes all members of the department and anyone involved in the investigation.  If there are any questions from outside of the department beyond that, you may refer them to me.  (Signed) Chief
