Hamilton, Ala. – On Wednesday, April 16, the Hamilton Area Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Marion County Emergency Management Agency, Hamilton Fire Department, Hamilton B.A.S.E., MotorSports SuperStore, and Fox 6 will host a second severe weather preparedness day. The event’s hours will be 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and will take place at MotorSports SuperStore, 210 Bexar Avenue West, in Hamilton.

Prompting the second event in just over sixty days was the request of Fox 6 chief meteorologist J.P. Dice, who along with his weather team of Wes Wyatt and Jill Gilardi, were unable to attend the first preparation day on February 12 due to their long-form coverage of a snow and ice storm which primarily affected areas to the south of Marion County.

The April 16 event will be a mirror image of the first event – weather radio programming and sales, assistance in programming cell phones and electronic devices, examples of 72-hour emergency kits, handouts and informational flyers to assist individuals and businesses in preparation for severe weather.

In addition to Dice and the Fox 6 storm team, Smithville, Miss., mayor Gregg Kennedy will be attending and speaking at the event. Dice will make a 45-minute presentation at 1 p.m., with Kennedy making his presentation at 5 p.m. Fox 6 plans to broadcast from Hamilton on their 5 p.m., 5:30 p.m., and 6 p.m. newscasts.

Event organizers were very pleased with the community’s response to the first event, specifically with the sales and reprogramming of approximately 50 weather radios. Marla Minter, chamber president, encourages everyone to come and meet J.P., Wes, Jill, and Mayor Kennedy. “We want to give them a great Hamilton welcome and let them know how much we appreciate the placement of their weather camera at the Marion County Courthouse, which is not only important to the safety of the citizens of the Hamilton area, but also is a great promotional tool for Hamilton.”
